Frequently Asked Questions

I built this tool because finding a contractor for my home improvement projects was a lot of work. I had to do my own research, reach out one-by-one, schedule site visits, and do due diligence. All for it to sometimes not work out.

When you post here, we email your project to a list of local contractors. Interested contractors can contact you directly.

I'll periodically post an article with my own home improvement learnings. See How to Finish a Basement.

Do I need an account?

Only if you want to post a project. Otherwise, you can browse projects and message owners without one.

I'm a contractor. How do I get notified of new projects?

Sign up for the email list. I don't want to spam, so I'll send out an email notification every few projects that are posted.

I have a project. What should my post say?
Provide relevant details:
  • Describe the project clearly: what you want done, where it is, and what “done” looks like.
  • Add specifics: measurements/quantity, materials (you vs contractor), photos, and any constraints (access, hours, pets).
  • Set expectations: your timeline/ideal start date and (optional) budget range so you get accurate quotes.
I'm a contractor. When I contact a project owner, what should my message say?
Keep it short:
  • Lead with fit and timing: what you can help with, your earliest start date, and how you prefer to connect
  • Prove credibility: similar jobs you've completed and a link to reviews, plus a license and insurance note if applicable
  • Confirm scope and next step: ask two to four key questions and suggest a walkthrough or estimate window
Why only Minnesota?

Because I'm located in Minnesota and this is for locals. I might open it up to Wisconsin if they're nice :)

Where can I see contractor reviews/ratings?

No reviews with this tool. I didn't want to create yet another review system. You'll have to do your own due diligence, so make sure you ask the contractor for their Google reviews, BBB profile, etc.
